PREPOSTEROUS PRESENTS

In 1988 encouraged by my then Accountant’s assessment that there could be a Preposterous Presents shop in every town in the country I took out a lease on what had been the Tusker Supermarket at 4, Charlotte Place W.1

We opened in 1989 and had a good Christmas with the Independent newspaper of 13th December 1989 including many of the items we stocked in their recommended Christmas novelty goods which included the aversion therapy kit, coughing ashtray, hair transplant kit, home face lift kit, Thatcher toilet roll and really blue video nasty, rubber chickens and various inflatables and seasonal items. Christmas and New Year were always good but after 10 years I decided in 1998 to concentrate on the original shop in Upper Street.

The Accountant who predicted that there could be a Preposterous Presents shop in every town in the country dropped dead whilst toasting Mrs. Thatcher’s last  General election victory with a glass of champagne.
